Handi and the Caketress

It sounds like a the title of a fairytale story.  And really it was, a fairy tale written right in cakeland!

October and November at Cake Love is typically our advanced teaching months.  For students that have joined the family, many progress onto the masterclasses before it gets too hot in the year to work comfortably with chocolate and fondant.

We were so delighted this year to be able to host Handi Mulyana, who recently won the wedding industry awards for best cake decorator in Australia with a world rank at #5!  What a great achievement!

and then in less than a month after that, we said a big G'day welcome to Lori Hutchinson, aka the Caketress.

What a whirlwind month!  I'm still recovering!!  :)

~~~~
Handi taught a series of classes including the signature double barrel - this time with rannuculus, cute couture figurines and the gravity deffying topsy turvy!  Let the photos tell the story.
Super duper cute and timelessly elegant.  This cake ended up being photographed for the West's Fresh liftout.
And what fun they had making these jaw dropping, gravity defying topsy cakes!
~~~~

Lori's classes were amazing!  It's not everyday that one gets to watch and learn from an internationally awarded celebrity cake artist.  Lori Hutchinson aka the Caketress, made the long trip from Toronto to teach a series of classes in Perth, Sydney and Adelaide.

Some of Lori's recent work include this amazing cake featured in Harper's bizarre, for a couple in Dubai, cakes for Amy Atlas (stylist to the stars) as well as being on a couple of food network challenges on the food network.

and these other beautiful works of edible art!

I had actually been an admirer of Lori's work since 2007, before her rapid rise to stardom!  I always loved her unique style and proving yet again that talent has nothing to do with age, she is a real spring chicken at 28!

We made some ruly beautiful cakes with some of WA & Australia's most talented cake artists in class.

The cake was a toned down version of Lori's massive 7 tiered royal wedding inspired wedding cake, with some gorgeous detailing, and a pretty 2 tiered ruffled design.

What fun they had replicating these details!

And of course lots of fun in the process.

and look at the results!!

a kiss to sign off and in the window it went!

We adored having Lori in the studio and hope she'll come back next year!  Fingers crossed  :)

Spring 2012

I'm a cold climate person..... I love the cold.  I can eat more, sleep better and I love the rain.  I always think there is something romantic about how after the rains everything is clean and new again.  A fresh start and a beautiful rainbow at the end of every storm.

Idealistic perhaps, but what is life without beauty?

It's been a busy spring season.  So busy in fact, I can only just now...at almost the end of spring, sit down and gather my photos and complete this post.

Firstly some of the cakes coming out of the studio.

Thomas the tank for Kaeden - who's full moon and first birthday cakes were also made by me.

Peppa the pig for lucky little Piper

An uber cool Metallica cake for not so little Banis

A super cute Dora the Explorer for Chloe...who decided at last minute that it was Dora she adored and not Dorothy the dinosaur as first planned!

A ginormous cake modelled on Ritzi's design (Planet Cake) for Russ' Games of Thrones gala, to feed over 100 party goers.

A somewhat smaller party for Rachael, but nevertheless just as cheeky with Stitch making a grand appearance.

A back breakingly high stiletto for Shafiqah's 21st birthday party.  Swish with Louboutins, diamontes, pearls and Givenchy all perfectly themed with a ride in a pink Humvee limo and dinner at Rockpool.

Miss Piggy also made an appearance at Naei's birthday this year!

Sure looks like she'll be loved.  :)

An absolutely awesome Red Angry bird for Rasul.  Was so sad to see this one leave.  I wanted to keep him for myself he was so cute.

Fun and colourful cake pops for Noon's birthday.  Its nice to be 21 again....wink wink**

Another Thomas the Tank cake for my darling godson Isaac.  This time on a yummy tiramisu cake.  Isaac sure loves his trains!

I also managed to put together an entry into the Perth Royal Show, this year attempting the novelty section with mixed success.   We were also delighted with so many of our students winning awards in the decorated cakes sections as well as the cookery section - particularly in macarons!

Did you see her at the show?
~~~
Talking about pops..
we were also delighted to be part of the Sounds like Summer event this year.  Organised by Toybox international, with proceeds going to the Cancer Council.
It turned out to be a beautiful evening with loads of beautiful people, including current Miss Universe Australia, Renae Aryis.  All who got to enjoy Gage Roads wines, Herb's Faust Food & our summer flavoured macarons in the trademark Cancer Council yellow.
Behind the scenes, we had macarons everywhere!!
 All for a very good cause!
~~~~
We also put together this gorgeously styled engagement party for Jenny and Kudzai that simply oozed sophistication!

Cake, Macaron towers, Rosewater marshmallows, mini cupcakes and cake pops made it onto the cake table.  It was just like a page out of Style me pretty!

~~~
After all that hard, hard work.  I decided that I definately deserved some R&R and so, I finish this post off with the stunning unspoilt beauty of Monkey Mia.
Hope you all had an amazing season too!
